Hi Hermione,
Yes l have seen that, and gone through his diary pages, but there is no mention of Reisner reopening GIII-a or GIII-b.
His drawings of these substructures are carbon copies of Perrings, as are his measurements when converted from imperial, and in his 1931 work he refers the reader to Vyse & Perrings work for more detail on them. His priority was directed to the temples, and m

Hi all,
Does anyone know if any modern exploration has taken place inside the substructures of Menkaure's queens' pyramids?
It appears that Reisner only reopened GIII-c in 1907, and left the more complete structures of GIII-a & GIII-b closed.
From what l can find, it appears that they have not been opened since Vyse in 1837, surely that can't be right?

Some smart structures there; hopefully l will get to do them someday, but for the moment I'm stuck at Giza for a while.

Its not the greatest quality video, and like most videos they never point the camera were l want to look:-(
Still as more become available, they gradually fill the blanks that l have from the data that Isida project sent me.
The circular impressions visible on the corbels are interesting, (and present in both chambers) l unfortunately do not have the full picture of their locations, but its po

Hi Jonny,
Many thanks for your detailed info on this subject; much appreciated, what l know about carbon dating could fit on the back of a stamp.
Would not the logs in the Bent pyramid be an ideal candidate, see image from following link,
Often described as cedar; though l have not come across any detailed reports on these logs. If some of these logs are the trunk of a young tree, is this

It is an important point for many small wooden artifacts, as to which part of a long lived tree that it derived from, and therefore caution is required on dates obtained from these small samples.
Might we be better examining larger items, like the large logs inside the Bent pyramid; my understanding is that these have not been dated.
Khufu's boat likewise has large timbers, which might ind

Good question, l could find no primary source, for when it was first discovered in 1968 during debris clearance of the north face.
Its often quoted that it contains Menkaure's name and mentions that he died on the 23rd day of the 4th month of summer (l.E.S. Edwards)
R. Gundacker did a modern study of it, in Sokar 19, 2009, but l couldn't find a copy. Hopefully more info in that articl

Hi Hans,
There seems to be an annoying bug in academia.edu, especially with large pdf's; l often scroll through a document and then it will miss pages or jump back to half way through the pdf. I often find it better to just download a article. You can read it on researchgate, its not so buggy over there. Once l've finished playing santa and ate all the mince pies, l was thinking of doi

Excellent images, for my next guide l am doing the Black pyramid. It is now open to tour groups and l have managed to get some images of the inside which help.
The pyramidion you show is not from the Black pyramid, as its was mostly intact and there is debate if it was even fitted due to its excellent condition; your image appears to be related to Khendjer's pyramidion.

Not sure yet; theres no shortage of sites, just a shortage of data to create a guide on too many of them, but I am sure l will find something:-)

I see a new series is being trailered on high tech exploration of Egypt, might be worth a view.
Here's a trailer
I was somewhat surprised to see my images from my Hawara guide being used from 1.11min. (I have no connection with this production, or have been asked for use of my work. Thought l should just point it out that l have zero input into this production)

Hi Alex,
Thanks for the link, another interesting paper on dendro. I am no expert on the discipline, but one can't help but think that rich rewards are possible from it, if only more resources could be directed towards dendro in Egypt. Likewise, a larger c14 study would not go amiss, and hopefully between the two we can obtain a more accurate chronology.

Given the nature of uncertainty in carbon dating its a reasonable enough statement to make.
I often wonder why they don't employ dendrochronology on those beams still present in the Bent pyramid, it might help clarify things.

Hi Mark,
I am always wary of any model to try and explain the giant constructions at Dahshur.
Like many l have played around with CAD, and come up with some interesting relationships; however, Sneferu's giants are in such a mess, we don't have an accurate data set to work to.
In an ideal world, it would be nice to see site clearance around these giants, similar to what has been ach
