I suspect that it may in fact be a Gnostic Gospel that was atributed to St. Barnabas. THe idea that Jesus was not in fact executed on the cross was a belief of some Gnostics. Further of course the idea of a second coming is hardly revolutionary among Christians. I suspect that this Gospel may have been "improved" after the coming of Islam. Although i should point out many of the Christiby Pacal - Ancient History
Mr. Raab you say: Quote1. If it is so obviously known that Mayans do paint black skin as part of ritual then WHHY was this mayan archaeologist so surprised by the artistic renditions? This was not the medias take but his. 2. The cone head is extreme in its representation. Why? The mayans do bundle as do SA types. The bundling NEVER comes close to what is represented in the display. Why?by Pacal - Ancient History
What the hell are you talking about. The murals look like totally typical Mayan art. As for the guy who is "black", you are aware that it was practice in mesoamerica for individuals for ritualistic reasons to paint themselves black? It as also been known for quite some time that 2012 is NOT an end date and that the Mayan calander has trillions upon trillions of years to go before it runby Pacal - Ancient History
Yeah so? The idea that the planets orbits are not their original orbits is not new and long predates Velikovsky. The author is quite clear that he talking about events hundreds of milions or billions of years into the past. Yeah the earth may once have been closer to the sun by c. 6 million miles. c. 1-2 billion years ago. unlike Velikovsky's repeated planetary near collisions in the last 10by Pacal - Ancient History
The Story sounds like a typical founder myth story. Exactly how much history is in it is debatable. Although the list of rulers seems to be accurate. This position by the way has been held by many experts on Andean civilization for quite some time. THe Balsa wood raft would argue for this person coming from another part of South America, assuming of course the legend is derscribing an actual histby Pacal - Ancient History
I missed this one. I guess you have no idea what Cultural relativism is do you, at least when it comes to Anthropology and Sociology? AS for this statement: "But according to the cultural relativists we're just supposed to stand to one side and nod our heads in respect for these beliefs and keep our mouths shut. If that's PC so be it." Pure fantasy.by Pacal - Ancient History
Why do you "trust" Plato? Plato was fond of sprinkling his philosphical dialogues with tales that he says are "true". Why should we take his Atlantis tale anymore seriously than the story of the metals in The Republic, or any of a large assortment of myths that Plato's dialogues have. How about that story of the origin of the sexes in Symposium for example. Or how aboutby Pacal - Ancient History
QuoteI do highly respect Bernard but his absolutism drives me nuts. Compulsively funny!! Esspecially given your utterly dogmatic view of the so-called "orthodox", which you regurgitate with predictable regularity along with your dogmatic derision of same. Pot meet kettle.by Pacal - Ancient History

Ritual cannibalism to help ensure the harvest, along with cannibalism of your enemies. Has certain parallels elsewhere in the historical and anthropological record. pretty horrible for the victims though.by Pacal - Ancient History

I've just finished reading David Stuart's The Order of Days and in it he discusses the "true" Mayan long count. (along with tearing apart 2012 nonsense). I did know before that the Mayan long count days as ussually recorded by the Maya were actually appreviated versions of the full or actual date, generally including only the last 5 numbers. For example 13.5.7.8.9, the actualby Pacal - Apocalypse

From that Website: QuotePortrayed as both feathered snake god as well as an epic hero, Kukulcan (who is also associated with Quetzalcoatl) is credited with rising from the ocean and teaching the Toltec people such things as fishing and healing and the laws by which they lived. Kukulcan is not associated with Quetzalcoatl he is the Mayan name for the same god. As for rising from the sea to teby Pacal - Ancient History
Only if you convert Velikovsky's claims into banalities do you get any sort of even partial confirmations. What of course you do get is massive and continuing disconfirmations. As for "absolute gatekeeper tendency". There was no gatekeeper, just a bunch of disgruntled Scientists who acted foolishly. AS for publically crucifying Velikovsky. Agit prop of the purest kind. Velikovskby Pacal - Ancient History
Velikovsky wasn't railroaded out of the field. He continued to be a practicing Psychoanalyst which was his profession. He of course had no expertise in Physics, Astronomy, Geology and Ancient history, or such things as Egyptian hieroglyphs. So he was never in those fields and in fact his writings reveal a serious lack of knowledge / expertise in those fields. Cosomos Without Gravitation, indby Pacal - Ancient History
Regarding this: Quote1. And for 60 years good solid date data underlies a proposition that erectus was in meso america 250k. I don't have to tell you what happened with that proposal. So whats the point. A proposal does not make anything mainstream. The gatekeepers have to bless it first. Pure fantasy. THere is no "good solid date data", it is all vigorously dispuited and consby Pacal - Ancient History
"Protest too much" is a mere rhetoric device it proves zip. In fact all it proves is that some people go over the top in their denunciations it almost never is any sort of evidence that the views they are denouncing are correct. The fact that some Scientists wasted their time trying, quite unsuccessfully, to supress Velikovsky's shoddy work, which is replete with errors and distortby Pacal - Ancient History
Once again you state something that is totally and utterly false. The statement concerning Levy and Jupitor is again totally false. A castrophic flood was proposed for mesopotamia as a source for the great flood in the 1920's, and a volcanic termination for Minoan civlization was first proposed and yes seriously discussed in the 1ate 1950's. your continued need to exagerate is anby Pacal - Ancient History
Well I've read a few issues of Ancient American. A wonderfully worthless magazine. The so-called "alternatives" in it give example after example of nonsense. The magazine is an excellent example of "alternative" "gatekeeping" where lying, distortion and deliberate ommision is de-rigure. And of course the largest amount of lying is about the "orthodox"by Pacal - Paper Lens
The question is absurd. The first secure evidence of slavic speakers is not until after 500 C.E. The Phaistos disk dates to before 1200 B.C.E. and probably 1400 B.C.E.That is 1700-1900 years before. A connextion seems to be rather unlikely.by Pacal - Coffee Shop
Ugh! Its all part of the inversion idea of being Gay. All that so-called research that allegedly shows that Gay men have "female" like brains. Its the very old binary view of human gender. Your either male or female. It is oh so simple-minded. Yep we keep hearing about how Gay male brains are somehow Feminized and Lesbian brains are more Masculine and this "explains" same-sby Pacal - Ancient History
Hvitramanaland Is mentioned in the Erik the Red Saga QuoteWhen they sailed from Vinland they got a south wind and reached Markland, where they found five Skraelings, one of them a grown man with a beard, two women, and two children, Karlsefni captured the boys but the others escaped and sank down into the ground. I'm aware of the story. Hpwever it is just that a story. The recent evidence along with Icelandic accounts indicate that the only pre-viking settlers in IceLand were Irish Monks. There isd NO evidence not even Icelandic accounts of even Irish Monks in Greenland. So these hypothetical Irish settlers who moved from Iceland, Greenland to North America do not seem to have existed. The accountby Pacal - Ancient History
The First article is dated September 12 2008. It contains the following comment; Quote To Sutherland, these artifacts all seem to point to prolonged contact in south Baffin between Inuit and Vikings, or some other mariners, from 1000 AD to 1450 AD or even earlier. No argument from me. 1. Mainstream bias= We know and our knowledge is superior so the alternatives view is psuedo or worse. 2. Alternative bias=conspiracy and hidden truths because gatekeeprs for their own reasons ide reality. Pick your poison. LOLby Pacal - Ancient History
This is a new discovery!?? The Venerable Bede, (660-730 C.E.) in one of his books mentions people living and traveling to and from Iceland. He called it Thule. Both the Icelandic Book of Settlements and The Book of the Icelanders, mention the monks who they called Papar and some of stuff, books, crosses etc., they left behind. Both accounts record that they refused to live among pagans, theby Pacal - Ancient History
The piece doesn't look particularily Mayan. It instead has the look of what someone might think a pre-columbian piece would look like. If its not a fake it is an unusal piece. I'm frankly very suspecious of it given all the Mayan artifacts and art I've seen over the past 25+ years.by Pacal - Ancient History
The story of the loss of the Ninth Legion in a war in northern Britain sometime circa 116-120 C.E., is almost certainly false. It appears that the Legion was transferred to Germany from Britain between 108-128 C.E.; and from there much further East. THe evidence for this is that several officials who served in the Ninth Legion served in high positions in government in the 170's C.E.'s.by Pacal - Ancient History
