I asked Bernard if that article was available online and he replied that it was not.by AWSX - Ancient History
Thanks Kat, Great set of articles! 'Little People' are very common in European legends and in North America we have Native American legends and many old newspaper reports from the 19th century of discoveries of very small skeletons. However all the physical evidence seems to have disappeared. Recently I found an article on the web that I have been trying to check out, but so fby AWSX - Ancient History
I know almost nothing about Egyptology and Armana so I am asking what do you experts know about Nefertiti? Was she Egyptian or was she from some other African kingdom? The reason I ask is that some time ago we were discussing Bateke, currently located in Gabon. One website had some very old artist sketches of Bateke in profile. Unfortunately I can find only one of those sketches shown below. Aby AWSX - Ancient History
That was my thought too! That was the practice of some of the tribes in the northern Rockies. What I found interesting is that we once thought that ritual sacrifice was limited to South and Mesoamerican cultures. Then a few years ago evidence of ritual cannabalism was found at an Anasazi site. Now we have what appears to be a huge ritual sacrifice as part of a funeral for a leader. "A recent excavation of a small ridge-top mound -- Mound 72 -- exposed the bodies of nearly 300 people, mostly young women believed to be sacrificial victims, who'd been buried in mass graves. Nearby is the burial site of a man believed to have been a ruler, about 45 years of age, whose body lies on a blanket of more than 20,000 shell beads, surrounded by piles of arrow tips from tribesby AWSX - Ancient History
"The 1918 flu virus spread across the world in three months and killed at least 40 million people. If it escaped from a lab today, the death toll could be far higher. “The potential implications of an infected lab worker – and spread beyond the lab – are terrifying,” says D. A. Henderson of the University of Pittsburgh, a leading biosecurity expert. Yet despite the danger, researchers inby AWSX - Ancient History
Some interesting articles in those links. I particularily liked this one on midieval dentistry techniques as preformed by barber/surgeons and blacksmiths. The remedy for toothache suggests cauterising the skin behind the ears before heating the plant henbane and leek seeds over hot coals and ensuring the patient inhales the smoke through a funnel. But as well as using the more traditionaby AWSX - Ancient History
Herur, Sorry, apparently I didn't make it clear. The only requirement is that the lines be parallel and equally spaced and that the total distance between the lines be less than the length of the stick. Then you lay the stick across the lines at whatever angle is required to position the ends on the outer lines. This method could be used to divide the stick into any number of equal divisionby AWSX - Ancient History

Does anyone have any ideas why so many skeletons were concentrated in such a small area?by AWSX - Ancient History
"Claude Guérin: The cranial fragment from Garrincho consists of the anterior-inferior (front lower) section of the left parietal bone. It is remarkable for its thickness - an archaic trait - and for the presence of a rare anomaly, a temporal-parietal, endo-exo cranial fossa (hole in bone through which arteries pass)."by AWSX - Ancient History
Yep, donald raab linked the same story from abc news a few days ago here: However the abc link is dead now! That was what prompted my comment on the 'smoking louse' thread a couple of days later! I am assuming that the 'teeth from Brazil' mentioned in the article are the same ones found at Garrincho. (about 1/4 of the way down) check out the anomaly on the skull frby AWSX - Ancient History
Paul, "(BTW, it has come to my attention that excavations have restarted at the Hueyatlaco Site and that they are getting dates of about 22,000 BP," Have you got any more info, like the name of the archeologist? The photos of the previous artifacts from Hueyatlaco show well made bifacial flaking and this could be the precursor for Clovis that everyone has been hunting for.by AWSX - Ancient History
Here is another link which has info on several mammal hybrids. If there are normal chimps in the same area and they choose not to mix with these new apes that does seem to indicate something strange.by AWSX - Ancient History
Well both chimps and gorillas have 48 chromosomes so a hybrid might be possible, but I have never heard of one. However hybrid mammals are almost always sterile so establishing a breeding population seems pretty unlikely. Have you seen any estimates of how large the population of these new apes is? Now I have not studied chimp evolution so I am just speculating here. I wonder if chimps mighby AWSX - Ancient History
That 2 cm hole in the back. Did the archeologist make any mention of how the hole was made, and was there any evidence that the hole was made while the individuals were alive (any evidence of healing)? What does the skull index of 84.3 mean (width/length)? A very curious discovery! Have you heard of anything similar. Interesting. Do you happen to know what the herbs were? Is there any speculation as to why the burials were arranged around the boar? Also what was the date of the burials?by AWSX - Ancient History
