Hi Hermione,
I couldn't find any contemporary evidence either linking Khufu to Saturn. The Uruk text containing the System A and System B parameters are significantly younger than the Great Pyramid, which also poses questions for me. However, there is a trail indicating a possible linkage:
1. Hemiunu who is Khufu's Vizier and who is believed to have been the architect of Khufu's pyramid was a priest of Heliopolis, the city of the sun. Heliopolis is known for its astronomer priests.
2. Heliopolis was also known to worship a black bull Mnervis. Mnervis is securely dated to the Middle Kingdom but there are references to the Bull of Heliopolis in the Pyramid Texts which could indicate a linkage to Mnervis, including:
PT 307 S486b:486c (W) "For Unas is the wild bull of the grassland, the bull great of face who came forth from Heliopolis"
PT 408 S716e(T): "Because Seti is the bull of Heliopolis"
3. We know from Quack, The Planets in Ancient Egypt (refer [
oxfordre.com] ) that Saturn was given the title "Horus, bull of the sky". Whether this is the same bull of the sky as in the PT 273 S397a (W): "Unas is the bull of the sky, in whose heart is rage, who lives in the metamorphose(s) of every god" and whether this is still referring to the same bull of Heliopolis is unclear.
With the above in mind, it is not entirely out of the question that Khufu or his Vizier Hemiunu were indeed interested in Saturn.
Regards,
Brendan
