One thing mentioned in the writing is that princesses weren't just women sitting in the harems, eating dates and shaking sitrums at the sky. They had jobs in the religious life of Egypt and were never married off to foreigners. As the writer says, "The only way you actually quit those jobs in Egypt was by dying."
