"The modern myth of primitive and ancient man being intellectually backwards is part of a materialist philosophy that predominated in the 19thand early 20th centuries. It proposed many hypotheses about Man’s spiritual culture or religion, for example, the most prominent being that religion was only the result of intellectual frustrations in attempting to understand the mechanics of natural laws. Hence, the beginning of man’s awakening from his supposed superstitious ignorance must have begun with the development of naturalist philosophy, what we call today physics."
I believe the greatest error he is making is the same one man has made for 4000 years; a near total lack of concern for the nature of ancient metaphysics that gave rise to ancient science. Certainly for the first 3500 years we looked high and low for this metaphysic and wore out every book from before 2000 BC trying to find it. But for the last 500 years we are so full of ourselves we just rewrote history and gave credit for every advancement to the underserving. We simply scoff at the idea of science that isn't based on experiment. We extrapolate and interpolate scientific results until we've convinced ourselves we know everything except how and why pyramids were built and a million other mysteries from before 2000 BC.
