It's a great question.

Depends on the target... Pre and Early Dynastic; Rene Friedman - Stan Hendrix - Toby Wilkinson, though Early dynastic interp. barriers (conventional theory) have been sort of broken by Jochem Kahl "Ra is my Lord" and Rolf Krauss "Early Royal Identity" (Proceedings of the SEAC 2010 Conference), both really good reads. Old Kingdom has a wide range, which at the moment is focused primarily in Saqqara and its surrounding area... here the Ministry of Antiquities plays a lead role... backfilled by universities and grant programs from around the world. these are the areas of Egyptology I keep tabs on, Middle and New Kingdom not so much.

When I was in Oxford 2019-2021 I had the chance to meet a wonderful young Egyptologist Christelle Alvarez who is an author and teaches in Berlin but was also part of an on-site field team at Saqqara doing reconstruction and conservation of pyramid texts in king Qa'Kare Ibi's 6th dynasty tomb.

Best,
