They managed to build those big pointy things that people are always so taken with, so they must have known
some maths and geometry [although, according to van der Waerden, the geometry they used was only "applied arithmetic"... ]
But, yes: from what little I know, I would have thought the Babylonians beat them hands down at maths and astronomy.
