Actually they are the shortest route to the surface.

But this isn't why they are the way they are. I believe they are the way they are in part because they need to be sloped for better air flow under low wind conditions such as temperature inversions.

It's because the wind direction could be out of the north or south.

But remember I'm suggesting there were at least two other uses for these shafts that must be considered to determine their characteristics. But as ventilation shafts that work under any conditions they are almost ideal.

I believe they needed to access the so called queens' chamber under some conditions so the airshafts were built in the event it proved they needed to during working days. It turned out that this access proved unnecessary so the shafts were never opened to the interior.

No, this is not "correct". It is a contention that the pyramid was completed from the ground up using ramps. There is no evidence to support such a contention. I believe that there was ongoing work in the grand gallery from the time the stepped structure first achieved 80' in altitude and this work of lifting weight continued until every step was filled in and the top 80' of the pyramid was installed. Some of this work may have continued right up until the last casing stone was emplaced on the middle of the north side but this won't be apparent until the data from the infrared scan is finally released.
