Authorship of this extract from
Exodus is attributed to Source J, generally dated to the period of the Babylonian captivity (597–539 BCE).
Authorship of the papyrus fragments found at Wadi el-Jarf would date to the time of Khufu, ca. 2480 BC.
So the contemporaneous AE account would surely be more reliable than Source J, a writer engaged in composing a Jewish foundation myth nearly 2,000 years later.
