The Greeks were referred to as the Haunebu by the ancient Egyptians and the oldest record of this name in hieroglyphics dates back to 2000 BC, an era that agrees with the supposed first emergence of the individual Hellenic phyles. The Haunebu were probably previously called Helou-Nebut and this seems to refer to the older Pelasgian phyles. The oldest reference to this name dates back to the IV dynasty. We also have proof that the first pharaoh of the V dynasty was in contact with Greece via the Cythera island findings.

The project undertaken related to the land of the gods - the Island of Fire. Since it was the land of the gods it is safe to assume that they might have obtained geographic information from the gods, maybe from Thoth who is accredited mythologically for designing the pyramids and handing down knowledge of science and math.
