I have The saints of Gwynedd (Molly Miller), now accessible online - [archive.org].

What I gather from this is that at least some of the traditions that have grown up around these saints are connected less with spirituality, and more with geography.

Getting back to St. Ursula: I tend to think that this is another case of mistranslation. If she was said to be a daughter of Dumnonia [en.wikipedia.org], might this just have meant that she came from the West Country?

Actually, the whole episode looks to me like a bit "mail order brides" ...
