The paper argues (PDF 14, p. 837) that some of the climatological events recorded by tree-ring chronology are also recorded in the from the Annals of the Four Masters - [en.wikipedia.org]. Some of the Annals of the Four Masters was based on the Lebor Gabala Erenn - [en.wikipedia.org]:

Today, scholars regard the Lebor Gabála as primarily myth rather than history,[4] at least until it reaches the early medieval period. It was inspired by other medieval Christian pseudo-histories and the Biblical story of the Exodus.[4][5] It also incorporates some of Ireland's native pagan mythology.

IIRC, the two authors' position is that this apparent coincidence of scientific evidence and the events recorded in ancient myth is "interesting ... "
