The study and interpretation of ritual practices and cultic activitiesperformed on statues in ancient Egyptian temples has been at the core of ourresearch over the past few years. After analyzing some of the rituals performedon statues in the divine temples of the New Kingdom and the first millenniumBC (e.g. Coppens 2007; 2010), rituals in the Old Kingdom royal temples werestudied on the basis of the available archaeological and textual evidence fromthe Abusir necropolis.
