I have my own (quite possibly erroneous) conclusions...
We are at a semi-crisis in this world economy, with many nations teetering (Greece, Italy, Spain), others continuing long term unsustainable debt spending (like the USA, but far to many more to list), & others, which had been making some serious gains, starting to slip backwards some (China, India...)
Times like these spawn uncertainties in personal lives (should I commit to that mortgage? Buy that new car? Will my job, or the company I work for, be there in 5 years?)
There is an easy spill over from personal uncertainty to the end of all things... it's almost too easy to "macro the micro" when times are fluid.
And boy has this happened before...
