Hancock also claims that Maltese temples ... if ... built in 11,000 BCE ... would have aligned with the Sirius constellation. [timesofmalta.com]

Work on astronomical alignments in Malta - on the basis of the sort of evidence mentioned by Vella Gregory - was carried out by the late Michael Hoskin - [www.hps.cam.ac.uk] - and others (Title: The orientations of the temples of Malta. Authors: Foderà Serio, G., Hoskin, M., & Ventura, F. Journal: Journal for the History of Astronomy, [1992] Vol. 23, Part 2, p. 107 - 119); see pages 116-118 in particular for references to Sirius (in passing) and Ggantija. [adsabs.harvard.edu]

However, Hoskins says nothing about Sirius and Maltese temples in 11,000 BCE: for the simple reason that, as echoed by Vella Gregory in the ToM article: "The very first traces of human habitation date only to c. 5,000 BC ... " (and see Hoskins: 107).

The real problem here, I think, is that, although Hancock has been described in another forum as "fringe royalty", it's now nearly thirty years since the publication of the book that really set the ball rolling: but it's been difficult in later years to keep up that sort of momentum, and find new audiences. He has to keep finding new ways to present - at best very dubious - theories. What he's really got going for him is the fact that a large section of the population is not that enthusiastic about applying themselves to the (sometimes arduous) task of getting to grips with the evidence left by ancient civilisations, and would much prefer the more sensationalist claims of lost civilisations that, though destroyed by ancient cataclysms, worked with advanced technology left them by ancient aliens who've since departed this planet, leaving traces of their knowledge-base to be transmitted to the Templars, the Illuminati, the Freemasons ... etc. etc. etc.

It's completely daft, of course: but so much more fun.
