"One of the country’s oldest Aboriginal heritage sites destroyed."
From article:
“Our people are deeply troubled and saddened by the destruction of these rock shelters and are grieving the loss of connection
to our ancestors as well as our land,” Mr Ashburton said in a statement."

"The rock shelter was constructed by tunneling into a naturally eroded cliff face that created a 19 m × 19 m (62 ft × 62 ft)
sub-horizontal ceiling ranging in height from 1.75 to 2.45 m (5.7 to 8.0 ft) above floor level, the roof is supported by
36 pillars created by the natural erosion of fissure lines in the bedrock. Investigation has shown that some pre-existing
pillars were removed, some were reshaped and some moved to new positions. In some areas ceiling slabs were removed and
repainted by the people who used the cave. Tool marks on the ceiling and pillars clearly illustrate that the modifications
served dual purposes, to providing a living space and to facilitate the removal of rock which was discarded down a talus
slope.[2][4]"
The destruction of this 45180±910 years cal BP habitation site (the original site in front of the cliff face) caused by cliff mining
during dreamtime prehistory is truly appalling. It wasn't done by Rio, it was done in ancient prehistory by the dreamtimers to their
own ancestor's Aboriginal heritage site. What about that loss of connection?
I'm saddened that the ancient dreamtimers did exactly the same thing to each other in prehistorical dreamtime as Rio is doing today.
I'm even more saddened by the fact that the men's camp laws gave those in the woman's camps no vote. That was a disastrous loss
of connection also IMO.
